The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is hiring a Research Support & Liaison Librarian for a 12 month full-time position. The Research Support & Liaison Librarian will act as a departmental liaison and lead the collaborative development and implementation of research support initiatives at the UMD Kathryn A. Martin Library.
While we are currently delivering research help service remotely, UMD liaison librarians and Access & Collection Services staff members continue to plan for the future of research support. In 2016, liaison librarians began delivering research help service from our offices instead of a traditional reference desk. In 2019, we began an open-ended process of exploration with the goal of identifying a research support model that fits our library and meets the needs of our campus community. The successful applicant for this newly created position will guide this continuing exploratory process, coordinate our current service, and work collaboratively to implement and continuously improve new research support initiatives.
The successful applicant will be part of a team that is focused on removing barriers that impede our community’s growth and development. Our library is committed to diversity and inclusion, striving to open our doors as widely as possible to be a welcoming environment in which to work, learn, study, and collaborate. UMD library employees are encouraged to pursue educational opportunities, professional development, participation in functional and advisory committees, and other opportunities to expand their careers. The successful applicant will also be an integral source of support to the success of UMD students.
The Kathryn A. Martin Library is prized for its design and architecture and features views of Lake Superior. It has been updated to serve today’s researchers, including the renovation of our library teaching spaces. UMD is a medium-sized regional university that offers students a supportive atmosphere and access to the resources of the larger University of Minnesota system. UMD students can choose from more than 93 undergraduate and post-baccalaureate degrees, and from graduate programs in more than 20 different fields.
The UMD campus is located in the picturesque city of Duluth, Minnesota. Duluth sits on the north shore of Lake Superior, with a population of approximately 85,000 people. Duluth is a major shipping port and regional health care and education center. The city offers a vibrant music, theater, and art scene; community events; plenty of green space; and readily accessible outdoor activities.
