The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is hiring a full-time, temporary (6 months) Assistant Librarian - Processing Archivist.

Position Overview

The full-time temporary Processing Archivist's main responsibility will be to arrange and describe a collection of approximately 100 cubic feet of family papers and family business records. The bulk of the collection was created during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This is a six-month limited term assignment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Developing and carrying out a collection processing plan in accordance with established goals
  • Arranging materials for organization and ease of use by researchers
  • Re-housing materials into appropriate archival enclosures for preservation
  • Researching collection items including reaching out to the collection donors for additional information
  • Compiling a DACS-compliant finding aid with a container list, and entering it into an Archives Space database.
  • Writing regular progress reports
  • Working cooperatively with library staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience
  • Experience or training in processing and creating finding aids
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, set and meet goals and deadlines, and manage project schedules.
  • Demonstrated consistent accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff and donors of collections
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of equity and inclusion as it relates to processing archival collections

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with the history of Northeastern Minnesota
  • Familiarity with the Protocols for Native American Archival Materials and experience working with archival collections that include materials related to Native American or Indigenous peoples
