H.M. Briggs Library at South Dakota State University is actively seeking a self-motivated and welcoming individual to join our team as a Library Associate. H.M. Briggs Library is devoted to helping all library patrons achieve academic excellence through collaboration, creativity, engagement.

Job Responsibilities

The Library Associate will provide reference assistance to students, faculty, and community patrons as well as conduct some library instruction sessions teaching basic concepts of information literacy. The person in this position will work collaboratively with librarians to identify Open Education Resources (OER) content and e-textbooks and share with academic faculty throughout campus for possible course adoption and access. This person in this position will also assist in collecting statistical data and maintaining existing research guides and webpages. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of: 

  • Library operations
  • Library classification systems
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Customer service practices

Skill & Ability to:

  • Provide constructive feedback
  • Communicate effectively
  • Collaborate as part of a team
  • Work with diverse audiences with varying range of library experiences

Some evenings and weekend hours may be necessary. SDSU is a tobacco free environment.
