The South Dakota Department of Education is seeking a State Librarian to provide vision and leadership to the staff at the South Dakota State Library and libraries across the state. The State Librarian directs all activities of the State Library, including library development, resource sharing, Braille and talking book services, state publications, research, state and federal grants for library materials and services, and other programs to improve library services statewide.

The State Library is a division of the Department of Education. It consists of three areas – Administrative Services, Library Development Services, Access Services – and operates on an annual budget of approximately $3.3 million. The State Librarian is a liaison to the six-member State Library Board and is a member of the Department of Education’s Leadership Team.
