From now until the end of summer, the Legislative Reference Library is displaying READ posters of Minnesota Representatives and Senators. At the 2019 Library Legislative Day at the Capitol, 28 legislators and legislative staff brought in books and had their photographs taken. The Minnesota Library Association and ITEM (Information and Technology Educators of Minnesota) hosted the event and created over 50 READ posters, including posters for participating library staff. Due to the popularity of the event, it is likely to be repeated next year at Library Legislative Day.
I spoke with Elizabeth Lincoln, Director of the Legislative Reference Library, and she shared a few stories from legislators who stopped in to the library to see their posters. Rep. Bud Nornes (District 08A) remarked that he already had a book picked out for next year. Rep. Dean Urdahl (District 18A), who posed with a book he wrote, asked why others didn't choose one of his books to pose with. Another legislator asked if they could have the poster after the exhibit was over so that they could frame it and put it up in their office. Rep. Mary Murphy (District 03B) didn't have a chance to have her photo taken at the MLA/ITEM event, but brought in her own READ poster created by the Arrowhead Library System.
Here are a few pictures from the library, and you can browse all of the legislator READ posters here.
