At this year’s National History Day National Contest there were 61 students with 36 entries from 19 schools representing Minnesota. It is an experience they will never forget.
At this year’s National History Day National Contest there were 61 students with 36 entries from 19 schools representing Minnesota. It is an experience they will never forget. Five of the entries were medal winners including a first place winner from an individual entry from Capitol Hill Gifted and Talented Magnet School in St. Paul for their junior paper “Margaret Sanger: Taking a Stand for Birth Control”, a second place winner from Twin Cities German Immersion School in St. Paul for their junior paper “Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring: Standing Up for Women, Science, and the Environment”. The other entries receiving medals were from Chaska Middle School East, Chaska, Parkview Center School, Roseville, and Sunrise Park Middle School, White Bear Lake.
Many of these students had the opportunity to visit Wilson Library, University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, West Bank, to enhance their research and some of these students also met with Minitex Reference Outreach & Instruction librarians who had the pleasure of instructing them and their classmates on History Day, visiting Wilson Library, about the research process, and other library resources available to all students.
