Responsibilities
- Metropolitan State University, Minnesota’s public, urban university, and recipient of the 2017 Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire an Interim Director of its Center for Online Learning. This is a limited full-time position with a duration up to 2 years from date of hire within the Center for Online Learning.
- Lead, supervise and direct COL staff to ensure that staff are skilled and available as needed for the efficient functioning of the department.
- Provide university-wide leadership and advocacy for online and hybrid learning to ensure student access to high-quality alternative learning platforms.
- Encourage and support faculty members and other stakeholders engaged in the development and delivery of online and hybrid learning to ensure high-quality instruction and programing for students
- Develop, propose to administration, and implement approved applicable policies and procedures related to online and hybrid learning to ensure best practices and maintain compliance.
- Manage the Center’s budget to ensure best use of university resources.
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- In-depth knowledge of online and hybrid learning competitive environment and regulatory expectations in a post-secondary setting.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply continuous improvement principles, assessment and evaluation to areas of responsibility.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators in groups and as individuals and lead and facilitate group processes
- An understanding of the internal customer service role of COL and the need to ensure rapid response to needs of faculty, staff, administrators, and students.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing sufficient to prepare messages and materials for diverse audiences and clearly explain, discuss and present complex ideas, regulations, policies and/or procedures
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and presentation software.
- Demonstrated ability to manage department/unit operations, supervise staff, and manage a budget.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master Degree in a field related to teaching and learning
- In-depth knowledge of online and hybrid learning pedagogies and best practices and instructional design for technology-mediated learning at the four-year university level.
- Proficiency in the following areas: online and hybrid teaching and learning; leadership and organizational skills; consulting and understanding of group dynamics; project management and implementation; facilitation and collaboration skills; policy and procedure development and implementation
- Ability to lead the unit in the development of cutting edge online learning technologies and learning approaches.
- Experience in conflict resolution
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
Physical Requirements of the Job
Requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Even though the weights being lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
