Food and Climate Change uses larger than life food models to illustrate the greenhouse gas emissions of each by adding weights to the foods. When someone picks up a food it activates a computer monitor to share information about the emissions from farm to table. The exhibit suggests food choices to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Minnesota’s Changing Climate showcases what communities and organizations are doing throughout Minnesota to address climate change. Another component of the exhibit illustrates the effects that climate change is already having on Minnesota.
Climate Resilient Communities looks at actions we can take in our communities to be more resilient to extreme weather, warmer temperatures, and wetter seasons. These actions can often address more than one problem and help build stronger communities.
Save Your Food! The production of food takes a lot of water, energy, and human effort. Better storage and planning can help you waste less. A variety of food replicas, stored in a cute mini-fridge, demonstrates the best ways to store foods. When you scan the barcodes on foods, the computer monitor displays the best ways to store that item.
Pollinators, “Bee Aware” emphasizes the importance of pollinators in our daily lives, their challenges to survival, and ways we can help them. Several interactive components provide fun opportunities to explore pollinators!
Fix a Leak emphasizes the importance of fixing drippy faucets and toilets to save water. Toilets are the number one source of home water loss; their leaks are often easy to repair. You’ll not only conserve water but also save money.
Exhibits are loaned for four weeks followed by a week for transport to another library. Email Portable.Exhibit.Loans.MPCA@state.mn.us to reserve an exhibit. Specify which exhibit you would like to borrow and any date preferences.
