Being a librarian, and the mother of a middler-schooler who attends a school without a librarian, I share a bond with Tom Burns, author of a recent article on the importance of school librarians.  The article, The Difference a School Librarian Can Make, According to One Dad, sums up many of my thoughts and feelings about this lack of direction, leadership, and access.  When there isn't a parent volunteering in the library, the library is closed, so students only have access to it just two days a week.  As Tom states, "teachers are already doing enough." At his daughters school the "librarian also taught the kids how to research, how to use Google Docs and PowerPoint, and how to give presentations."  And we all know they can do a lot more then that!
