Call for Proposals

You can help make this a great conference! Consider sharing your experience and expertise by submitting a program proposal for a session, workshop, or lightning presentation. The planning committee has created a list of potential topics of interest, but proposals on all relevant topics are welcome. The deadline to submit proposals is Wednesday, June 13, 2018.

Suggested Topics

  • Digital humanities
    • Ideas and/or tools for getting started
    • Projects
  • Collections as data movement 
  • Outreach and marketing of digital collections
  • Copyright in digital collections
  • Implementing DPLA rights statements  
  • Digital library platform development 
  • Digital storytelling (e.g. exhibits, primary source sets)
  • Using digital collections in the classroom
  • Linked data digital collection projects
  • Wikimedia and digital collections 
  • Digital collection building with communities
  • Creating new audio projects (e.g. oral histories, podcasts)
  • Revitalizing digital collections (e.g. partner engagement, metadata reconciliation, or other projects to revive dormant digital collections)

Suggested Tracks

We’re considering offering specific tracks at this year’s conference. You can indicate on the form if your proposal fits under any of these tracks:

  • Digital collections and the solo librarian/staff person
  • CONTENTdm
  • Other tracks to be determined as dictated by conference proposals

We strongly encourage presenters from all backgrounds, staff/student roles, and organizations to submit proposals and contribute to a diverse conference that will appeal to staff working with digital collections from all types of cultural heritage organizations. The planning committee will review submissions based on the quality of the written proposal, knowledge about the topic submitted, and how the proposal relates to the goals of the conference and suggested topics.

More About the Conference

The UMDCC provides opportunities for digital collections creators and curators in the region and beyond to network, share best practices, participate in hands-on workshops, and learn from leaders in digital cultural heritage.

Minitex, along with a regional planning committee, are the primary organizers of the Upper Midwest Digital Collections Conference. In addition, St. Catherine University Library is the local host and is donating staff time and planning support for this event.
