Minnesota's recently concluded legislative session resulted in several new voting laws. In her article for Minitex, Minnesota Voter Outreach Director Melanie Hazelip summarizes the new laws and invites library staff from across the state to join her and Secretary of State Steve Simon for a webinar on August 9.

New law expands voter access in Minnesota

The Democracy for the People Act expands access to the ballot for Minnesotans by enabling automatic voter registration, among other measures. Registration is now open for two information sessions presented by the Office of the Secretary of State. Additional sessions can also be scheduled to meet the needs of specific communities.

Minitex and the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State are partnering to offer two webinars to help library staff prepare for the upcoming midterm elections. The one-hour webinars will be held at 1:00 p.m. on September 7 and September 26.

New voting guidance for Minnesota

The October 29 ruling by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals requires updated guidance for Minnesotans who wish to vote in this year's election. Absentee ballots should be returned as soon as possible, but MUST NOT BE MAILED. Options remain, however, for securely submitting an absentee ballot or voting in person. Learn more: z.umn.edu/lib-vote
