Minnesota libraries extend their service hours for families, remote workers, and others
Library open hours are constrained by staff availability and library budgets, but the needs of patrons are best met when the library is open for as many hours as possible, including at irregular times such as early mornings, evenings, and holidays. Many of Minnesota's libraries are now taking the steps necessary to extend their hours, to the great benefit of their patrons.

Three questions with new Policy Advisory Council representative Scott Duimstra
The Minitex Policy Advisory Council advises the Minnesota Office of Higher Education and Minitex in the planning, development, and evaluation of Minitex programs and services. The council has six new members in 2024, including Scott Duimstra, who represents Metro Area Public Libraries.

Doors Open Minneapolis to feature Minnesota Library Access Center
The Minnesota Library Access Center (MLAC) will open its doors to the public the weekend of May 18-19 as a part of the annual Doors Open Minneapolis event. More than 100 organizations are participating in the event, including MLAC and Hennepin County's Minneapolis Central Library.

This week I visited the East Lake Library, which first opened in 1924 before relocating to its current location in 1976. The library works to provide access and address the needs of the Longfellow and Phillips communities.

Roosevelt Library offers high-quality programming, a refurbished interior, and, most importantly, a friendly library staff to its visitors. During the school year, those visitors are likely to be students from Roosevelt High School, which stands directly across the street.

Helen Burke wins 2023 Borger Lifetime Achievement Award
The Minnesota Coalition on Government Information (MNCOGI) has announced that librarian Helen Burke is the winner of the 2023 John Borger Lifetime Achievement Award, and Elder Voice Family Advocates is the winner of the 2023 Finnegan Freedom of Information Award. An award ceremony was held in the Minnesota State Capitol’s Cass Gilbert Library, on March 16, Freedom of Information Day.
