Minitex Memories: Expanding delivery to include Little Free Libraries

In 50 years of service to libraries, Minitex has never shied from a challenge. Minitex's groundbreaking delivery service to Little Free Libraries launched four years ago today, enabling library patrons to borrow books from 50,000 Little Free Libraries in more than 70 countries. In theory, at least.

Documenting Minitex: New photographs added to Minitex MDL collection

For our 50th Anniversary, in addition to celebrating together, one of our goals is to make sure we also document our organizational history. To that end, we have enhanced our existing Minitex digital collection in the Minnesota Digital Library with photographs to help illustrate the programs, services, and stories mentioned in the oral history project recordings.

The MINITEX pilot project: Alice Wilcox and 15 libraries

On July 24, 1970, Alice Wilcox issued the MINITEX Pilot Project Report. In the report's recommendations, she wrote, "it is in the public interest to provide access to the major bibliographic collections for all citizens with information needs." Without the 15 libraries that participated, the pilot project could never have succeeded.

The first Minitex Messenger

The initial design for the Minitex Messenger was created by Mary Mortenson in 1971. Inspired by the artwork of Peter Max, Mortenson's design was featured in black-and-white outline on the earliest issues of the Minitex Messenger print newsletter.
