Beta RDA Toolkit to become official RDA Toolkit on December 15, 2020

As of December 15, 2020, what is currently the beta RDA Toolkit will become the official active RDA Toolkit.

CLIC catalogers attend RDA workshop

On July 17, Lizzy Baus met with CLIC cataloging staff at the O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. The morning consisted of a presentation on current and future developments of RDA and related standards. In the afternoon we put our new knowledge into practice and worked together to create a description of a book using the RDA Toolkit. 

Getting a Handle on the New RDA Toolkit

On April 30, there will be a major update to the RDA Toolkit BETA site that will include a stabilized version of the English text as well as added and improved functionality to the BETA site.

RDA in a day at Viking Library System

On a recent December day, Lizzy Baus delivered a day-long training to Viking Library System staff in Fergus Falls, MN. The day's material was called "Bridging the Gap: AACR2 to RDA," and the purpose was to help the staff with their upcoming transition to the current cataloging standard known as Resource Description and Access (RDA). 

ALA Preconference Report: A Practical Introduction to the New RDA Toolkit

On Friday June 22, I attended an ALA preconference dedicated to the structure, functionality, and future of the new RDA Toolkit, currently in beta testing. I've assembled some of the main points, as well as my takeaways, below. If you have a subscription to the current RDA Toolkit, you are more than welcome to explore the beta Toolkit yourself. 

February 2017 RDA update released

The RDA Steering Committee (RSC) has released their usual February update to the RDA rules. Many of the changes this time around are related to the decision made in November 2016 to adopt the new IFLA Library Reference Model (LRM) as a conceptual model. This replaces the Functional Requirements suite of standards (FRBR, FRAD, FRSAD, etc.) that are now superseded by the LRM. Though most of the changes required to adapt to this new standard will take effect in the April 2018 release of RDA, it is clear that the RSC is laying the groundwork now. 

RDA Toolkit new site February 28

The RDA Tookit will roll out a new rdatoolkit.org site February 28. The site will include a more dynamic home page with images and headlines that will make valuable information more conspicuous and accessible, and a new section called Shop RDA, which will list new RDA-related books, webinars, and online courses with links to where these items can be purchased.
