If you have a digital collection at your organization and are thinking about any type of assessment, I encourage you to look at the good work of the Digital Library Federation’s Digital Assessment Interest Group. Formed in 2014, this interest group is looking at how to measure impact of digital collections, develop areas of commonality, and discuss how to best collect, analyze, and share information.
In their book Classroom Assessment Techniques for Librarians, Melissa Bowles-Terry and Cassandra Kvenild build upon the ideas from Tom Angelo’s classic book Classroom Assessment Techniques with applications for information literacy instruction.
Formative assessments help educators to gauge learner understanding in the middle of the learning process, as opposed to summative assessments which test for understanding at the end.
Instructional assessment is like… what? Going to the dentist? A detoxifying organic juice cleanse? Reviewing the details of your life insurance policy? All good things, undoubtedly, but not immediately satisfying.
