Product Highlights
ACLS Humanities E-Book is an online collection of high quality books in the humanities, accessible through institutional and individual subscription. These titles are offered by the ACLS in collaboration with twenty learned societies, nearly 100 contributing publishers, and librarians at the University of Michigan's Scholarly Publishing Office. The result is an online, fully searchable collection of high-quality books in history, recommended and reviewed by historians and featuring unlimited multi-user access and free, downloadable MARC records.
HEB was originally funded as the ACLS History E-Book Project in June 1999 by a $3-million, five-year grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, with additional funding from the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation. HEB achieved self-sustainability in the spring of 2005 and became ACLS Humanities E-Book in January 2007. In October 2019, Michigan Publishing, part of the University of Michigan, took ownership of ACLS Humanities E-Book and contracted with Lyrasis to act as the administrative arm for subscriptions while ACLS will continue to oversee content selection.
As of October 2019, the ACLS Humanities E-Book includes 5,519 titles.
The collection includes both in- and out-of-print titles ranging from 1885 through the present. Titles link to important online reviews in JSTOR and other sites. Over 400 titles are currently available in print-on-demand (POD) format.
