The digitized diary of Newton Persons of Northfield brings the year 1865 to life. Persons recounts his life on the family's farm, the daily weather conditions and discusses his neighbors in and around Northfield. He also mentions being called to St. Paul in order to register for the Civil War draft. Although Person registered, he was not called up. Newton Persons also recorded the murder of President Abraham Lincoln at the end of the war.
