Body
A Mashable article (h/t Mark Ranum) has convinced me that I’ve used my computer monitor incorrectly for years. The article, called “You’re Looking at It Wrong – Why the Web Demands Vertical Screens,” advocates for turning your monitor upwards. So I tried it. Check it out: A little ridiculous, right? I giggle every time I see it. It’s like having an oversized smartphone propped up on my desk. But it’s growing on me. The vertical orientation reduces white space on many websites. I can scan content-heavy sites quickly and read through articles without as much scrolling. I can also position multiple pieces of content easily (e.g., watching a webinar or monitoring AskMN in the top half of my monitor with a browser or Word doc below). Give it a try. Your co-workers might give you a hard time, but truly revolutionary acts are rarely fully understood in their own time.
