University of Minnesota seeks Curator for Tretter Collection in GLBT Studies

The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Campus Libraries seeks a dynamic, outreach-oriented individual for the position of Curator of the Tretter Collection in Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, and Transgender Studies. The Tretter Collection, the inaugural winner of the American Library Association GLBT Roundtable's Newlen-Symons Award for excellence in service to the GLBT community and winner of the 2017 Society of American Archivists' Diversity Award, is one of the leading collections in the country.   It is the home of the groundbreaking Transgender Oral History Project, which has gathered 200 video interviews of transgender individuals primarily in the Upper Midwest, and which has received funding for a second phase. The Tretter Collection is international in scope, comprising books and serials, personal papers and organizational records, audio and video, unique textiles, and ephemera. Collection highlights include the records of the Log Cabin Republicans; the Michael McConnell Files, documenting America's first gay marriage; Bisexual Organizing Project, Minnesotans United for All Families, and Two Spirit materials.  

Primary Responsibilities

• The Tretter Collection curator will lead collection development and management, research services, outreach, fundraising, and supervision of project and student staff.
• Collaboration with faculty in teaching LGBTQIA+ history and culture.
• Partner with campus units such as the Gender and Sexuality Center for Queer and Trans Life, the incumbent will ensure that the Tretter Collection is a recognized, integral campus resource.
• Guide an advisory committee, a community group that supports the collection, and collaborate with  organizations in the Twin Cities and elsewhere.
• Collaborate with other administrative divisions within the Libraries, and work closely with Libraries' Development and Communications staff.

Required qualifications include an American Library Association accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science or Archives or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience, extensive knowledge of the LGBTQIA+ community, history, and challenges, demonstrated excellence in communication, ability to work effectively in cooperation with colleagues in a service-oriented, collaborative environment, demonstrated initiative, self-direction and innovative thinking, demonstrated evidence of program and outreach development, and facility in use of technology and applications in research collections.  

This is a full-time, 12-month, continuous appointment track academic professional position with probationary appointment at the Assistant Librarian rank with the potential for appointment at the Associate Librarian rank.
