The University of Minnesota's Jean-Nickolaus Tretter Collection in Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Studies won the ALA GLBT Roundtable's inaugural Newlen-Symons Award for Excellence in Serving the GLBT Community. Kris Kiesling, Director of Archives and Special Collections at Elmer L. Andersen Library, accepted the award at the Stonewall Book Awards Program on June 27 at the ALA Annual Meeting in Orlando.

According to the GLBT Roundtable's website, "the purpose of the Award is to promote excellence in serving the GLBT community by highlighting individuals and organizations with innovative programs and/or initiatives.  By honoring programs and/or initiatives with demonstrated impact on the GLBT community that have been sustained over a period of time, this Award seeks to 1) increase the number of services to or for the GLBT community in libraries, and 2) enhance the quality and sustainability of such services."
