The inaugural Indie Author Project statewide contests were a huge success in 2018 (read more about it here). Thank you to the Minnesota libraries that participated last year and contributed to this success. As we head into our second year, we are excited to keep this momentum going, apply what we learned from last year’s contests, and expand to additional libraries. We hope that you will join other libraries in your state to promote this opportunity to your local writing community. By joining, your library can become part of the movement to empower self-published authors and provide your community with access to new and diverse literary voices.
In partnership with Library Journal, the statewide contest will accept submissions of self-published Young Adult and Adult Fiction, with winners in each category to be recognized as the top self-published books in your state. This is a great opportunity for your library to engage with your local writers, as well as increase exposure, credibility, and recognition of their work.
As sponsors of the contest, BiblioBoard and Library Journal will provide the marketing materials and submission page, as well as facilitate the judging process. Your library’s primary role will be to promote the contest and increase awareness of the writing services and digital content available to your community.
We hope your library will take advantage of this opportunity to foster your community of local authorship. Join our webinar on January 23 at 10 AM CT to learn more about how the Indie Author Project works, hear about the success of the 2018 contests, get news on the expansion of the project in 2019, and most importantly hear about how you and your library can get involved.
