Lecture: 6 - 7pm
Scanning: 7 - 8pm
Masjid Dar Al-Hijrah/ICSA (2nd floor)

As part of the public program of the exhibition, Abdi Roble, Documentary Photographer and Community Archivist, will present a keynote lecture on community archiving as well as sharing his ongoing archival experience with the audience. Joining Abdi will be Ellen Engseth, Curator of IHRCA and Head, Migration and Social Services Collections. In addition, Roble will give the viewers a tour of his exhibit which includes his own photographs and selected postcards from his personal archival collection. Immigration History Research Center Archives, University of Minnesota Libraries and the Minnesota Digital Library with Roble will facilitate image capture via scanning for the Receptacle audience throughout the evening.

This event is part of Receptacle, an exhibition that features work by thirteen Somali American visual artists, and, at its core, serves to activate the site of exhibition through direct engagement and participation of its audience beyond the show.
