Metadata helps people discover and use digital collections, now and far into the future. It also helps us as staff to organize and manage our digital collections. This class will provide an introduction to metadata for digital collections, with special emphasis on creating descriptive metadata records using the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set.

By the end of the class, you will know more about:

  • Types of metadata for digital collections
  • Metadata standards for digital collections
  • Introduction to the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set
  • Metadata guidelines and local practice
  • Additional resources for metadata creators

Who Should Attend?
This introductory series is for staff of any library, archive, museum, or other organization planning or already working on digital projects. No previous knowledge about resource description (metadata work) for digital projects is assumed.
