Session 5: Describing Places

In this session we will explore how places are described in name authority records. We will consider how RDA theory impacts recording information about places as creators, contributors, and subjects of works. We will discuss core elements, access points, and attributes to consider when recording a place name, preferred name, or variant name. We will understand which sources of information are important for decision making about place names. We will do a deeper dive into identifying places and disambiguating these entities in the world. We will practice how to look up rules in RDA for doing place work with examples and exercises.
