Library signage is one of the most visible ways libraries communicate with their patrons—but creating signs that are attractive, accessible, consistent, and easy to update can be a challenge, especially when you’re working with limited time and design experience.

Join Jemma Johnson, Public Services Specialist at Z. Smith Reynolds Library, for a practical introduction to using Canva for library signage. Designed for beginners, this session will walk through the basics of setting up a Canva Brand Kit, selecting accessible fonts and design elements, creating reusable templates, and choosing the right dimensions for different signage needs. We’ll also explore using QR codes and tracking, incorporating maps, and exporting designs for both in-house and professional printing. Participants will leave with practical strategies for creating signage that looks cohesive, communicates clearly, and is easily maintained over time.
 

Learning Objectives:

• Create Canva’s Brand Kit and templates to establish consistent fonts, colors, logos, and visual styles across library signage.
• Apply fundamental accessibility principles when selecting fonts, colors, layouts, and other design elements for library signs.
• Incorporate practical tools such as trackable QR codes and annotated maps to make signage more useful and actionable.
• Export Canva designs appropriately for in-house printing or submission to a professional print shop.
