This year’s Public Library Node meeting was well-attended, as Minitex and Minnesota public libraries came together to celebrate the successful completion of the MnLINK Gateway RFP and the announcement of OCLC’s WorldCat Discovery being chosen as the new end-user interface for the next generation MnLINK Gateway. The meeting was held at at the Brookdale Public Library on August 20, 2015.
Attendees learned more about Worldcat Discovery in a live webinar presented by OCLC staff. WorldCat Discovery is slated to go live in the first half of 2016, and for many attendees, this was their first time to see how it would work. The agenda also included Minitex Director, Valerie Horton, introducing the new Ebooks Minnesota program, expected to debut in Fall of 2015.
Other presenters included Emily Kissane from State Library Services, as well as Minitex staff members Nick Banitt, Joan Krey, Joan Wollenberg, Agnes Lee, Raquel Franklin, Fred Finch, Jennifer Hootman, and Jolie Graybill.
As part of the celebration, participants chose a cupcake for their trip back to their home libraries. A quiz on the history of the MnLINK Gateway produced three lucky winners who went home with prizes; Jami Trenam (Great River Regional Library), Noah Warren (Hennepin County Library), and Nancy King (Arrowhead Library System).
