Quick Summary
The Minnesota Digital Library is expanding its traveling exhibit program with the launch of a new banner exhibit: “Visions of Minnesota: Photographers of the North Star State.” Organizations in Minnesota may borrow the exhibit up to three months for free!
The Minnesota Digital Library (MDL) is excited to announce the expansion of its traveling exhibit program with the launch of its second banner-based traveling exhibit. Featuring images from MDL, the new exhibit, “Visions of Minnesota: Photographers of the North Star State,” focuses on photographers George Newton, Haakon Bjornaas, Mathias Bue, and Myron Hall. Each of these photographers represent different geographic regions of Minnesota from the 1880s through the 1950s.
Since the banners can only include a small number of photographs, the MDL has also developed online versions of the exhibits for those who wish to view more of their photographs. Browse the online exhibits:
- George A. Newton: Visions of the North Country
- Haakon Bjornaas: The Traveling Lens
- Mathias O. Bue: Portraits of the Root River Valley
- Myron Hall: The Eyes of Central Minnesota
This photography exhibit joins MDL’s previous banner set, “Minnesota Seedswomen,” which shares the little-known history of three Minnesota businesswomen in the flower seed and nursery trade in the early 20th century. Two more banner exhibits are being developed this spring and summer. They will focus on the themes of childhood in Minnesota and Main Street Minnesota. For more information or to request an exhibit loan, visit the traveling exhibit project page on MDL’s website.
About the traveling exhibit program
Featuring images from MDL’s digital collections, these banner exhibits are available for free on a first-come, first-served basis. Each traveling exhibit consists of three or four pop-up banners, and each banner is approximately 33x80 inches. Organizations in Minnesota can borrow the exhibit for a period of up to three months.
