DPLA's annual GIF IT UP competition returns October 1 and runs through October 31. Minitex staff will be entering the contest (Paul Bunyan may be making an appearance for the 3rd year in a row), and we would love to see more Minnesota entries! This contest is all about using public domain and openly licensed content. The contest rules state that you must make your GIFS using materials that you find in the DPLA, Europeana, Trove, or DigitalNZ. Minnesota Reflections records (and several other large Minnesota library collection records) are included in the DPLA.
If you are a contributor to Minnesota Reflections, consider creating an animated GIF from your own collection! Or, if you want to go broader, here's a search tip we found helpful when searching all of Minnesota Reflections for open content: Search the "Rights" field in the Advanced Search and use a boolean search string like this "public domain OR no known OR creative commons."
View DPLA's website for more information, including how to sign up to attend their free virtual GIF-making workshops. Happy GIF-making!
Here you can catch a glimpse of Paul assisting the lighthouse keeper at Rock Harbor lighthouse in Isle Royale National Park on Lake Superior.
