An announcement from the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) Minnesota Open Educational Resources (OER) State Action Team

Pre-planning for a statewide open education and affordability organization, provisionally named Open Minnesota, is underway through the MHEC Minnesota OER State Action Team. We’re now seeking practitioners from across education levels and institution types, including K-12, public, private, and Tribal colleges, who want to volunteer their time to take an active leadership role in steering and launching this statewide collaboration.

We welcome interest from a wide range of roles that aim to increase equitable access to course materials for students of all ages across Minnesota. This includes, but is not limited to, librarians and media specialists; instructional designers and instructional coaches; faculty development and curriculum directors; faculty and teachers; administrators; bookstore/course materials staff; student success professionals; and others who actively support OER and affordability efforts in Minnesota. Please forward to qualified individuals who may be interested.

Early efforts will focus on practical next steps: better coordinating and communicating existing initiatives, identifying what additional shared efforts would be most valuable, and shaping how Open Minnesota should organize to take on that work. A statewide online conference and an in-person Open Minnesota planning summit are also in the pipeline.

At this stage, we are especially seeking people who are ready to commit the time and effort to take an active leadership role in shaping and launching Open Minnesota. If you are interested in the work but not able to commit to a leadership role right now, that’s okay; you are still welcome to complete the form so we can keep you informed and identify additional ways to involve people as the collaboration takes shape.

Please respond by August 6 via this Open Minnesota Planning/Leadership Interest Form. Indicate in the form whether you are interested in taking an active leadership role at this time, willing to pitch in at another time, or would simply like to receive updates about our work.
