Quick Summary

The Native American Lives Series features Dakota and Ojibwe leaders, artists, and elders who shaped Minnesota and the nation. Co-edited by Heid E. Erdrich and Gwen Nell Westerman, it is designed for grades 4–8.

An illustration of three Native American people from Minnesota, each representing a different profession or interest. On the left, a man holds a baseball; in the center, a woman stands at a podium with the Seal of the State of Minnesota, holding her hand up as if taking an oath; on the right, a woman with long braids holds a stack of books. Each figure has a stylized vertical line down the center of their face, and the overall art style is vibrant and hand-drawn.
