Quick Summary
This month’s Resource Pack invites students to explore health and wellness through social, emotional, and medical resources.
It’s cold out there, so let’s get cozy and think about how to encourage health and wellness among ourselves and our students. Read ahead to uncover the many ways that you can encourage students to explore what a healthy lifestyle really is in this month's Resource Pack. The January pack includes a variety of engaging resources from eLibraryMN, Ebooks Minnesota, and Minnesota Digital Library about mental, social, environmental, and physical health.
For K-8 students, age-appropriate EBSCO health collections help build early understanding of personal wellness and the human body. Primary and middle school Explora Health Interfaces cover essential topics such as nutrition, fitness, mindfulness, substance use, and reproductive health in a safe and accessible way. Ebooks Minnesota titles introduce young readers to healthy eating, exercise, emotional well-being, doctor visits, and overall self-care through engaging text and visuals. Together, these tools provide educators with reliable, developmentally appropriate materials to support health education at every grade level. EBSCO offers a wide range of health resources designed to support high school instruction and student research.
EBSCO’s High School Level resources introduce foundational and advanced health topics, including substance abuse, reproductive health, and healthy relationships, while encouraging critical thinking through POV Reference Source health debates. ProQuest Nursing and Allied Health adds depth with academic articles and instructional videos on body systems, medical procedures, and diseases that can support both health and science classrooms. A curated selection of Ebooks Minnesota titles further enhance learning with teen-focused titles on mental health, nutrition, women’s health, integrative medicine, and general health literacy.
The primary and secondary sources from the Minnesota Digital Library (MDL) also highlight the long history of healthcare in the state. Historical photographs of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, hospitals, ambulances, and patients are included alongside written records and oral history interviews with doctors. The MDL has also created four primary source sets on topics related to health and wellness, including the Mayo Clinic, patent medicines, chiropractic medicine, and the Minneapolis YMCA.
