"The Office" book recommendations (part 2)

Someone's favorite TV character can say a lot about not just about a person’s sense of humor and interests, but their literary tastes as well. Watching "The Office" and librarianship can often times go hand in hand, as this shows a mix of dry humor and situational comedy that those working in libraries can find relatable (sometimes a little too much). Stanley Hudson

• Stanley Hudson lives for 3 things: leaving at 5 pm on the dot, avoiding drama (unless he’s in Florida), and pretzel day. Maintaining a strict work/life balance is important to him, and Stanley looks forward to getting home to unwind and decompress, enjoying a cup of red once a week (it helps with inflammation). A fan of Stanley enjoys titles with straightforward and low-stress plotlines.

Phyllis Vance

• Phyllis is soft-spoken, kind, and gentle… unless you get on her bad side. She is fiercely loyal, a romantic, and can be quite vengeful at times, although often in response to mistreatment. For the most part, Phyllis is a warm presence in the office; just don’t make her get Bob involved. If Phyllis is your favorite character, you probably enjoy a spicy romance packed with suspense, tension, and charm.

Ryan Howard

• Dunder Mifflin’s youngest VP and everyone’s favorite burnout, Ryan’s tale of reaching the top followed by being knocked down a peg is reminiscent of many classic tragedies. Ambitious, trendy, and always looking for the next big thing, Ryan shows sparks of brilliance at times, but is often undone by his preference for flash over substance and overreliance on technology.

Kelly Kapoor

• Kelly lives her life like she is the star of her own show (technically she is). Not one to shy away from drama; rather, she thrives on it. Whether it’s at work or in relationships, she is emotionally intense and unapologetically herself, unwilling to compromise for others (unless it’s a certain former temp, BOOO). Kelly finds neutrality boring and opts to approach life at 100% volume.
