The Minnesota Digital Library (MDL) Operations Committee facilitates planning, coordination and communication of MDL’s program development and operations. The purpose of the Operations Committee is to integrate MDL’s operational workflows, coordinate and disseminate information, and make recommendations to Minitex management and/or the MDL Governance Committee as appropriate. 

Supporting collections activities currently include:

  • Digital conversion, metadata management, rights management, and digital preservation services for participating organizations
  • Digital initiatives education, training, events, conferences, and consulting
  • Building a collection of exhibits and other digital venues telling Minnesota’s stories
  • Scan-for-Keeps scanning equipment borrowing program for participating organizations
  • MDL provides discovery and access services into the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) through
    • representation of MDL metadata in DPLA
    • aggregation and representation of digital library metadata in DPLA from larger cultural heritage organizations in Minnesota who do not contribute to MDL’s online collections 
    • representation of MDL metadata in WorldCat
  • Marketing and social media efforts

The committee is comprised of members from Minitex and its Digital Initiatives & Metadata Education unit; the University of Minnesota Libraries Digital Library Services and Digital Preservation & Repository Technologies; and members from representative contributing organizations on a rotating basis.
