RDA Cataloging: Basic Audio Works

Currently Offered Sessions

No sessions currently scheduled.

Description

With the transition to RDA, catalogers are encountering more and more RDA bibliographic records in their work, including new acquisitions like musical and non-musical sound recordings.

This Minitex webinar is an introduction to basic RDA copy cataloging for those with cataloging experience. We will employ handouts and review cataloging examples to help the participant build the foundation necessary to quickly review RDA bibliographic records for audio materials--mainly physical items like CDs, but also streaming and other online formats. Moreover, we will briefly describe other aspects of RDA; these include some of its new terminology and the Music Library Association's documentation on best practices for RDA cataloging.

(This webinar does not cover: using the RDA Toolkit; classification, genre/form, or subject headings; authority work; non-MARC cataloging; matters specific to any particular integrated library system.)

WEBINAR PLATFORM: Minitex uses Adobe Connect, which accommodates both phone and computer audio access to the webinar in addition to the video component.

PREREQUISITE: If they already haven't done so, registrants must view the short video "RDA Cataloging: Introduction to the Basics" prior to the live webinar. It covers general format-agnostic topics like transcription, punctuation, core elements, and record formatting under RDA. Registrants will get access to the video about one week before the scheduled webinar date.

SCHEDULE: This webinar is 3 hours and 30 minutes in length. Registrants must attend a session to receive a certificate of completion.

No webinars are scheduled for the remainder of 2014.

Instructions on signing into the webinars will be issued about one week prior to the scheduled session dates.
