RDA for the Solo/Copy Cataloger (3-part webinar)

Currently Offered Sessions

No sessions currently scheduled.

With the decision on the national libraries' implementation of Resource Description and Access (RDA) now made--and LC's adoption date of March 31, 2013, in the cards--catalogers are beginning to learn how to recognize, employ, and build records based on the new standard. This three-part webinar series, directed to small library staff and to copy catalogers with basic cataloging experience, concentrates on the nuts and bolts of RDA-MARC bibliographic records for most formats--what's changing and what's remaining the same. New parts of the RDA-MARC authority record will also be introduced. Participants will engage with RDA through hands-on exercises and some readings from the text.

Each registrant will receive instructions on logging into an interactive Moodle website approximately one week before the first day's webinar; there, they can partake in discussion and gain access to webinar documentation.

These webinars take place over a one-week period. Participants must attend all three days of any one series to receive a certificate of completion.

No webinars are scheduled for the remainder of 2014.

Who Should Attend?

Small library catalogers, those copy catalogers who have basic experience with cataloging, and other interested library staff who want to explore RDA before implementation by LC (March 31, 2013) or locally. Minitex will continue to offer this webinar series from time to time for those who wish to transition to RDA at a later date.

1. Copy cataloging experience. Note this is not a "How to catalog" workshop, but a "How to catalog with RDA" workshop; some background in copy cataloging is assumed.
2. Some familiarity with the AACR2 text or with AACR2 practice
3. Familiarity with the MARC21 format for bibliographic records; knowledge of the MARC21 format for authority records is optional
