Cataloging & Metadata Tools

Both interfaces give access to WorldCat, OCLC's database of over 300 million records.

  • CatExpress
OCLC's web-based copy cataloging interface. Designed for small to medium size libraries. Minimal training required.
  • Connexion
OCLC's flagship cataloging service. Used to create and edit bibliographic and authority records as well as copy cataloging. The browser version enables local holdings maintenance. The client version offers macros and customization, offline and batch functionality. Extensive online documentation, tutorials, and context-sensitive help.
  • WebDewey
WebDewey provides online access to the Dewey Decimal Classification® (DDC) system. WebDewey is available as an OCLC online subscription service with two versions. You can subscribe to either the full (DDC 23) database, including Relative Index terms, built numbers not available in the print versions, and BISAC-to-DDC mappings; or to the Abridged Edition (14th, and soon, 15th editions), which is a condensed version of the DDC system for smaller libraries that covers all classes and key index terms.

In addition, Minitex DCME staff have created the following resources for use with OCLC Connexion.

Library of Congress

  • Library of Congress
Users of the LC catalog can download MARC bibliographic records one at a time or several from a list. They can download authority records one at a time.
  • Cataloger's Desktop

When combined with separate subscriptions to ALA's RDA Toolkit or OCLC's WebDewey, Cataloger's Desktop provides linked functionality between related elements.
  • Classification Web

American Library Association
