General Resources

  • ALA Cataloging Resources
Guidelines on cataloging electronic resources, microforms, audiovisual materials, and material for children. Also, some links to cataloging interest groups.
  • Cataloger's Desktop
A web-based subscription service that provides access to RDA, AACR2, DACS, Library of Congress Rule Interpretations, subject cataloging manuals, MARC21 formats, MARC code lists, and many other resources.
  • Cataloging Service Bulletin (CSB)
A quarterly periodical issued by the Library of Congress (LC) detailing updates to LC cataloging and classification procedures and policies. The final issue of the CSB, no. 128, was released in the autumn of 2010. Also includes information on new subject headings, changes to AACR2 and LCRI rules, and other cataloging news from LC. The complete archive of CSBs is available for free from the Cataloging Distribution Service website.
  • Resource Description and Access (RDA) and the RDA Toolkit
RDA is the new cataloging standard on providing descriptions and access points for resource discovery. Designed as the successor to AACR2, these new guidelines aim to be both flexible and adaptable to the needs of catalogers. The RDA Toolkit is an online suite of cataloging tools. These include the full texts of RDA and AACR2, mappings between cataloging standards, collaborative tools such as workflow summaries, and more.
